At the end of the school year, it became apparent to me that numeous students were not so excited about summer break like I always was when I was in middle and high school.  I guess things change over 20+ years (yes, I'm being way modest with time!).  When I was in middle school and high school, I couldn't wait for the last bell to ring and sing "School's out for Summer" as I tromped to the bus for the last ride home for several months.
Of course, when I was growing up, times WERE different.  I stayed busy hanging out with my friends on the curb of our streets, playing kickball in the middle of the road, and walking to the end of the block to the old dirt diamond for a quick game of baseball.  When my dad had a few weeks of vacation, we would pack up and head to Lake Cumberland where we swam in the lake, rode dirt bikes, and hiked around in the woods.
Today; however, times are different for kids.  Throughout the summer, I get texts like, "I'm bored, Mrs. Warner." Hitting Facebook draws more conclusions of boredom with the same notes.  Why?  Why are kids so bored nowadays?  What IS there to do during the summer months?  That's what this blog is all about.
